Giovedì 10 settembre, dalle ore 19.00, Cardi Black Box inaugura la collettiva Background Story dedicata al lavoro di tre grandi maestri della fotografia: Letizia Battaglia, Enrique Metinides e Arnold Odermatt. L'esposizione riflette sul tema della tragedia attraverso tre visioni e tre diversi modi di costruirla, svelarla o estetizzarla proponendo una selezione di circa 40 opere che raccontano il quotidiano attraverso una molteplicità di piccoli e grandi drammi; storie spesso tragiche che, per quanto vicine alla nostra quotidianità o parte dell'immaginario che la caratterizza, finiscono col rimanere rumore di sottofondo della nostra esistenza.
Letizia Battaglia (1935), giornalista e fotoreporter di Palermo, ha raccontato i delitti di mafia nella sua città con scatti tragici, coinvolgenti e carichi di umanità. Enrique Metinides (1934), artista messicano, ha lavorato per anni come fotoreporter, catturando immagini molto forti di crimini, delitti e incidenti a Città del Messico. Arnold Odermatt (1925), fotografo elvetico, ex luogotenente della polizia, nella sua carriera ha saputo interpretare gli incidenti stradali che capovolgevano improvvisamente l'ordine della periferia svizzera.
Dalla trasformazione della tragedia in icona negli scatti di Metinides o dall'estetizzazione dell'incidente di Odermatt, alla carica emotiva e personale nelle immagini di Letizia Battaglia, questa collettiva racconta "lo sfondo" inteso come inevitabilità del percorso umano: è una mostra che parla dell'ordine del caos, del disordine del destino, ma anche della bellezza della tragedia e delle implicazioni che la sua rappresentazione ha sul nostro modo di interpretarla.
Per Cardi Black Box si tratta del primo progetto espositivo tout court: a differenza delle mostre precedenti, con cui la Galleria ha presentato per la prima volta al pubblico italiano ed europeo lavori di giovani artisti emergenti, con Background Story Cardi Black Box propone attraverso un progetto curatoriale inedito lavori storicizzati di artisti attivi già dagli anni Sessanta. Questa mostra sottolinea l'impegno museale e di ricerca di Cardi Black Box, galleria impegnata nella valorizzazione e divulgazione di percorsi artistici eterogenei attraverso un programma scientifico sensibile sia agli sviluppi della storia dell'arte che ai temi che caratterizzano il nostro presente.

In occasione della mostra Background Story prende avvio una nuova iniziativa firmata Cardi Black Box: un calendario di incontri aperti al pubblico dedicati ai grandi temi della contemporaneità.
